A series where music lovers share some of their hidden gems.

Number 76 is by Charch (Hall), a Georgian selector based in Tallinn.

Tell me about your musical roots

My earliest memory is from when I was a kid—my brother and I would collect old cassettes and overwrite them with songs recorded from the radio. I got seriously into underground electronic music during the rise of the Tbilisi clubbing scene in the early 2010s. Ever since, I've been diving deeper into the music world. When I got my hands on my first-ever dance music vinyl record, I knew I wanted to open a vinyl store. I'm always inspired by the 90s sound and am constantly chasing down cross-genre gems from that era.

What is your favourite place to dig and why?

The best place to dig, for me, is a second-hand vinyl store. It's not just about finding gems, it's also about connecting and sharing with like-minded people. I feel like I'm giving new life to a record that I find among hundreds of others and then bring to the public.
Practically speaking, I also do a lot of digging online through various distribution channels as well as Discogs, but my first search string when I travel is always 'local record shops.

What do you listen to when you want to chill?

I like to listen to downtempo, old-school hip-hop, world music, ambient pretty much anything, depending on my mood or if I want to switch my mood to a certain one. Opening my record store has introduced me to many genres I never thought about before.

Can you share with me your favourite podcast at the moment?

For a few years now, this podcast has never left my favourites list on SoundCloud—Trushmix 140: Telephones. It fits any situation. From more recent ones, I'd recommend DIM300 - Laurine & Cecilio from Dimensions Festival.
