Tell me about your musical roots
As a Latin person, I was born into rhythms like salsa, cumbia, and merengue. They were always so fun to dance to or to join in with your hands as an extra percussion. I always felt these rhythms were powerful because I could see and feel how they could easily change the energy and mood of a person, room, or dance floor. Later in life, I was introduced to new genres like rock, dub, hip-hop, and electronic music. But to me, they were no different than the Latin rhythms; they were all inspired by powerful emotions and were meant to make you feel new, powerful emotions as a result. I was already hooked on the magic of music.
What is your favourite place to dig and why?
My favourite place to dig right now is Discos Paradiso. I've been living in Barcelona for 7 years now, and I just started going to their store in the last year. I have no idea what was stopping me before, but I'm happy that I'm going now. The selection is always good, and even though so many DJs hit the store, it amazes me how they all can leave the store content, so they must be doing something right.
What do you listen to when you want to chill?
To chill in my house, I would pick some reggae, dub, world music, soft rock, post-punk, cold wave, rock en español, chill hop, contemporary jazz, or R&B. But if I have to choose one band, it would be Thievery Corporation. All of their records are so good, and they are my go-to when I want to chill or receive some company in the house.
Can you share with me your favourite podcast at the moment?
My favourite podcast right now is Outransa for Cartulis Music. It is just a sweet set. It lasts around 3.5 hours, so I tend to listen to it when I travel. It's been my companion for many airports, road trips, etc.
